Preventing Bed Sores

Preventing bed sores, rather than having to later treat them, is an inadvertent focus of eliminating the vast nationwide problem of nursing home abuse. Occurring in at least one in three nursing homes across the country, by preventing the cycle of abuse that has been plaguing our nation's elders it can also drastically help preventing bed sores. There are certain methods of preventing bed sores.

Bed-ridden residents are at an especially high risk for suffering bed sores and nursing home care workers must frequently move or rotate the resident so that constant pressure in one bodily area is not experienced for preventing bed sores. Repositioning residents every couple hours is essential in preventing bed sores and in increasing the comfort level for residents. If a resident is in a seated position, employees must shift the residents every quarter of an hour for preventing bed sores since the position is added pressure. Learning and utilizing methods for preventing bed sores should be a priority for nursing home employees.
