Intraabdominal Sepsis
The most important aspect of successful intraabdominal sepsis treatment is for early diagnosis and prompt surgical intervention to occur. Depending on the nature of the intraabdominal sepsis that is present, it will determine what type of medical procedure is necessary for treatment.
In any event, the goal of the treating intraabdominal sepsis should be to stop peritoneal contamination, debride necrotic tissue, remove debris and foreign bodies and drain all localized collections of pus. Most instances of intraabdominal sepsis follow abdominal trauma, perforated appendicitis or diverticulitis.
Antibiotics should be given that treat enteric gram-negative rods and anaerobes when intraabdominal sepsis is present.
