Nursing Home Sued by Daughter
August 7 , 2007
The daughter of a previous resident at the Lemont Nursing Home has filed a wrongful death suit against the facility for allegedly abusing and neglecting her mother.
She believes the poor care at the home is to blame for her mother’s unexpected and preventable death.
Wrongful Death Suit
Minnie Burger, a previous resident of Chicago, was living at the Lemont home when she fell, fracturing her leg and hip.
Three days after her injury, Minnie suddenly passed away.
Burger’s daughter, Teresa Thorp has filed suit against the Lemont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and believes her mother would have never suffered from the injuries if her mother was properly cared for.
“Minnie’s daughter is very disappointed and angry at the care her mother received,” explains Thorp’s attorney Steven Levin.
“She believes the nursing home, despite what they told her, did not take the simple precautions necessary. She’s also concerned that something like this doesn’t happen again,” added Levin.
Safety of Home Questioned
The lawsuit, which was filed in mid-July, also names the nursing home’s owner, the Evanston-based Care Centers Inc. in the suit.
The lawsuit also claims that while living at the home Thorp had an infected sore on her leg and had cuts and rib fractures from being attacked by another resident.
State officials are now looking into the safety of the home and qualifications of its employees.
