"New Jersey nursing home abuse
problems challenged"
In November 2002, a U.S. Justice Department
report caused a high level of controversy when alleging improper
practices were to blame for some New Jersey nursing home deaths
at the Mercer County Geriatric Center. Although the workers denied
instances of New Jersey nursing home abuse, a new director has been
hired to replace the former director, emphasizing the quality of
care and marketing efforts are topping his list of priorities. Stating
it will be a tough, long road to reverse the New Jersey nursing
home abuse risks, the new director has classified it as a long-term
commitment. The National Citizen’s Coalition for Nursing Home
Reform believes that, “There are some wonderful nursing homes
in the United States, but the majority of them are truly poor”
(nj.com, 8/10/03).
