Nurse's Aid Pleads Guilty to Nursing Home Neglect
August 28, 2007
A nursing aide at the Jennifer Matthew Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Rochester, NY, has pleaded guilty to neglecting a 70-year-old man under her care.
The woman in question has become the tenth employee to plead guilty to criminal charges arising from hidden-cameras placed in the home by state investigators.
Case of Neglect
Tammy Devos, 43, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor counts of violating New York state health laws and falsifying business records.
Devos was one of the 13 arrested after being caught on camera that were hidden in the man's room showing the employees continually neglecting him.
The video showed that Devos and the others failed to reposition the man in his bed to prevent skin damage and left him in his own urine and feces causing him to develop bedsores.
The employees then falsified his medical records to indicate that they were caring for him in a proper manner.
Details of the Suit
From 2003 to 2005 the nursing home received more than $10 million from Medicaid.
The state is now seeking to recover this money due to the inadequate care of its residents.
The company's CEO, Anthony Salerno and the consulting firm he operates, HCFA Associates Corp., are also named in the suit.
