Nursing Home Sued for Rape Incident
January 8 , 2008
A suit was recently filed against a nursing home in Texas after a resident was allegedly raped by one of the home’s employees.
After a laundry worker was caught raping an Alzheimer’s patient at the Village Creek Nursing Home in Fort Worth, the victim’s family filed a suit against the facility.
Man Charged with Rape Commits Suicide
Although Charles Schealy, 67, claimed that the sex was consensual, he was charged with the rape of a 65-year-old woman who was living at the nursing home.
Schealy was immediately fired from the nursing home in June.
In November, Schealy was found dead on train tracks where he committed suicide by allowing an oncoming train to run him over.
Family Takes Action
The family of the victim filed the lawsuit against the Village Creek Nursing Home earlier this week.
The suit claims that the home was responsible for the rape because they failed to send the employee to any formal job training.
The woman who was assaulted had been a resident of the facility for three years but has since been removed from the home.
According to her family, she has a hard time being alone now and suffers from dementia.
There is no telling how long she suffered from the abuse.
